Welcome Back, Santa Cruz

So as far weekends go, the one in which I returned to Santa Cruz was fucking epic. I mastered at organization and my room looks awesome. Josh and I just have to paint my mirror, and patchwork fabric onto my trunk and I'll be super happy with it. On top of that, I was greeted back with a wonderful drunken extravaganza at the new palm house and I had my first steak since getting my wisdom teeth out. It was much needed.

Sunday Josh and I picked up team Berkeley and went to the Wildcat Canyon park with directions out of the Hot Cold zine to get to a magical fort in the middle of the forest complete with tree swings, tire swings, huts, a ton of people and, most importantly, Lucky Dragons playing a kick ass show. At one point the electricity went out so they passed out recorders to everyone and just had everyone jam. More photos will be on facebook as soon as I finish and develop the role.

An excellent beginning to what I now deem the Adventure Year.

So I spent the weekend in Donner with my mother. She spent the entire time talking and amazingly the only two subjects she could come up with were her weight and her (surprise!) fiance. She doesn't like him but he's loaded and, as she wisely imparted, "there is something to be said for having a husband who will be your slave". So, as unbearable as this was, I was forced to resort to norcos to deal which had three negative consequences:

1. I now have a really terrible sunburn

2. my mother now thinks I don't mind when she talks to me

3. she took my joke suggestions for the wedding seriously. These included having the music selection consist entirely of Prince, me wearing a dress that turns into a shorter dress and then a bikini, and the wedding being on a beach with the wedding party brought over by a boat and then carried to shore by buff guys in matching swim trunks and bowties.

I need to get back to Santa Cruz.

Speaking of which, I just signed up for introduction to electronics in intermedia and thus signed away all my sleep for next quarter. I'm kind of scared.

Every time I see Akron/Family live I am convinced yet again that they are the best live band out there. (Diana you would have died surrounded by so many bearded men.)

In other news, I have determined that human beings both as individuals and as a race are all inherently self-destructive. (It has been a very complicated summer.)

UGHHH I'm ending this summer by getting my wisdom teeth pulled! And she's not giving me any vicodin because she thinks I'm too small! Bitch please, I can hold my housewife drugs and that was going to be the only point of this godawful procedure.

I'm also going up to Donner with my mother. I am definitely going to bike out a lot of anger and frustration around that lake.

But in good news, major party when I move back to Santa Cruz! Are you fucking ready for this? (I'm mostly addressing Galina in this one. Welcome to the fucking green monster!)

I don't think I really had anything to say even when I started this. Yay sleep deprivation delirium!

Today I stabbed myself three times with an x-acto knife while working on one of my final sculpture projects because I was too tired. At the end I honestly couldn't tell which of the red stuff on my hand was paint and which was blood. I burned my thumb a couple days ago with a hot glue gun and yesterday I burned my burn. All I think about is cardboard and the terrible shit going on in Africa. I need this week to be over because on Friday I get to see Up with Josh and get drunk and forget about all of this insanity.

Speaking of insanity, I got a very interesting email from my mom the other day. Backstory: her boyfriend that she broke up with all of her other boyfriends for died of cancer two months ago. I haven't talked to her in a couple of weeks. She's only been to Santa Cruz once to move me in freshman year. Here's the entire email:

Hi Kristy!
I was wondering if you needed a ride home from school. Your NEW future stepfather has a truck and days off. (He's a cop)
Love,
Mom

Ummmm what?

My room is covered in cardboard and nutella.

So today I was in Burlingame at a cafe place filling out an application. All of a sudden I'm surrounded by really big men in black suits. I look up and right next to me is ARNOLD FUCKING SCHWARZENEGGAR (sp?) watching me fill out my application. WTF? I was really confused so I just kind of looked at him and he smiled at me and I just kept looking at him and then he turned away. So that was my really awkward moment with the governor. Then I finished filling out my application amidst secret service agents.

List of famous people I've seen randomly:

Arnold Schwarzeneggar
Dick Cheney
Keanu Reeves
Art Alexakis

and, the best of all, all three members of Stella

I know it's nothing compared to some of you L.A. natives, but Burlingame doesn't get much action.

In other news, I think I'm completely in love with Frank McCourt and is that weird?

Hi guys!

My life, interesting? Interested?

Things I did today:

Took two baths while reading Angela's Ashes

Went to see my grandma who spent the whole time setting up a time when I could go see my mom.

Went to see my mom who spent the whole time getting ready to go somewhere else and barely talking to me.

Got tackled by my 9 year old brother who then cackled and told me I'm never allowed to duck tape him to the wall again. He then shot me with a nerf bazooka gun. Who makes this shit?

Stole like 15 fruit strips from Safeway because I started thinking about how terrible it would be to get scurvy and ate them on top of the bart station parking lot while reading Angela's Ashes.

Sewed more. I think I may have a problem.

Sneezed about 600 times.

Told my grandma about all the kids from my Catholic elementary school who are now gay. She gave me a really weird look.

Found out about how this guy was pulling into the handicap parking spot at Mollie Stones when he hit the gas instead of the brake and ran into little girls and a mom selling girlscout cookies. The mom with them lost a leg and the girls were in critical condition for a while. Only Burlingame could have an accident that suburban.

Realized I'm really into super morbid stories. Remember when we hung out and told serial killer stories for 2 hours freshman year diana? Let's do that again.

Found out that my mom wanted to name me Madeline but the nurse told her she shouldn't because I was too small for such a big name.

Decided that I'll start updating this thing more often but probably won't unless I get some good comments on this entry. What do you think, guys?

Realized that Belle, Jasmine, and Ariel were pretty bomb role models but Snow White and Aurora were total idiots.

Thought about what my guardian angel would be like if I believed in guardian angels. I think it would be really well-intentioned but super clumsy. What about you guys?

The Minister of Culture, from whom the poet did everything possible to hide, did not catch up with Hrubin until his funeral, when he made a speech over the grave about the poet's love for the Soviet Union.
